SCORE volunteers provide confidential business mentoring services, both in person and online. We also lead seminars and workshops to help small business owners meet their goals and achieve success, help expand the outreach of SCORE through marketing and alliance building in our local communities, and provide subject matter expertise by industries and professional skills.
At Northwest Arkansas SCORE, our strongest volunteer need is always volunteer mentors. A NWA SCORE mentor meets one-on-one with small business owners who have requested mentoring to start or grow a business.

5 qualities in a great NWA SCORE mentor
As successful and experienced business professionals and entrepreneurs, SCORE mentors deliver valuable, timely, and practical advice. Do you have a specific business-related skill for which you have proven training and experience?
Listening skills are vital in a successful mentoring scenario. A good listener can discern what a client needs and help guide that client in the right direction.
Enjoy working with people
Meeting face-to-face with someone in a mentoring relationship is an incredibly personable role. Mentors must be the type of person who enjoys working closely with people.
While mentoring is one-on-one, mentors are a part of the overall NWA SCORE volunteer team. We are all working towards a common goal, which is our clients’ success. (Sometimes you may need to call upon the skills of another mentor to assist a client.)
Each mentoring relationship is different and NWA SCORE mentors must be relatively flexible in how they respond to each mentoring client.
Do you possess these five qualities? We would love to talk to you about becoming an NWA SCORE mentor. Contact us today to sign up as a volunteer.
